Well this is a fine start. After a more peaceful night we
were just about to get under way when Terry got a text message from his bank to
say that there were suspect transactions on his account. Suffice it to say that
after further texts and phone calls it appears that some low-life has got hold
of his card details and bought themselves an X-Box and several games. Got the
card blocked so we’ll have to see what happens next. Good job we carry other
cards, however it does put a bit of a dampener on things.
Nevertheless, carry on. Continuing the journey south through
Chaumont, a modern attractive town and thence to Dijon, still following the D
and N roads which are obviously a lot busier today! Lunch and then head to
Challon-sur-Saone, the road now roughly following the autoroute and the river
with the rain showers gradually decreasing and the temperature rising – that’s
more like it.
Although we were doing quite well, it was clear that attempting to get past Lyon today was not wise, especially as aires were few and far between. An executive decision was therefore taken to stop half way between Macon and Lyon where there was a group of three. The first we considered too small to chance, the second was right next to the busy motorway and very noisy (and didn't look as if anyone ever actually used it) so headed for the last – which wasn't there anymore! Oh bother, or similar words.
It was starting to look late so we expanded our search to
include campsites and spotted an ACSI (discounted with our card) site only 3 km
away. A four star site, it looked fine so as the weather appears to have bucked
up a bit booked in for 2 nights. Not many units on site, we found a nice pitch
and settled down.
We've been driving almost solidly for three days now and the
driver needs a break!
